Letter to Dominos 02/12/10 regarding their online "community"

Dear Dominos,

Since your website crashed as I tried to register earlier today, and I now find out that “the quota for my gender has been filled”, I’ll be taking my new pizza recipe to one of your competitors.

You said my thoughts and opinions were important. You said you wanted me to be involved. I went to the trouble of coming up with a unique idea just for Dominos, but apparently the quota has been filled and I am no longer important.

This is the problem with trying to make people feel special. As soon as you take the opportunity away, they feel worse than they did before. Seriously, don’t make promises about a fun and interactive community, and then shut the door on people who try to join! That’s just like holding out an icecream, asking someone to take a lick, then snatching it away and throwing it in the dirt before they get a chance.

If you are trying to create an “Ideas Lab” then you should be discriminating on the quality of the ideas generated, not on the quantity of females already registered.

Perhaps next time you want to send out an exclusive invitation, you should make sure there are enough spots for all the people you invite.

As for my recipe, I’m sure it will look great on Eagle Boys’ menu.

Kind regards,
Gemma.
